Arusha Roots & Wildlife
Meet the people before you meet the animals..
Most Tanzania safaris begin with a transfer from the airport to the lodge, and the world outside the car window stays at arm’s length. This one is different. Arusha Roots & Wildlife starts where Tanzania actually lives — in the noise and colour of Arusha’s central market, in the coffee plantations beneath Kilimanjaro, in the red-dust streets of Mto wa Mbu where over a hundred ethnic groups share a single village. Only then does it take you into the parks.
The result is a journey with a narrative arc that most safaris lack: you understand the land and its people before you encounter its wildlife. Every game drive feels richer for it.

Day 1 – Arusha — The City That Connects Everything
Your guide meets you at the airport and drives you to Arusha. Tanzania’s safari capital is a city of extraordinary contrasts — colonial architecture alongside Maasai traders, NGO Land Cruisers alongside motorcycle taxis, the snow-capped silhouette of Mount Meru on the skyline. You explore the central market (spices, dried fish, fabric, second-hand electronics, fruit from the slopes of Kilimanjaro). Overnight in Arusha.
Day 2 – Materuni — Waterfall, Coffee & a Family Lunch
An early drive to the village of Materuni, high on the southern slopes of Kilimanjaro. The morning begins with a guided walk through coffee and banana plantations to the Materuni waterfall . You participate in a traditional coffee ceremony at a family home
Day 3 – Walking Safari in Arusha National Park
Enjoy a walking safari accompanied by an armed ranger, through habitats ranging from highland forest to open savanna to the flamingo-fringed lakes of Momella. Giraffes in the forest. Buffalo in the grassland. Black-and-white colobus monkeys overhead. This is also the best park in Tanzania for Mount Meru views, and one of the finest for birdwatching — over 400 species recorded.
Dinner & night in Arusha area
Day 4 – Mto wa Mbu — Village of a Hundred Tribes
This small town at the edge of the Rift Valley is home to people from over a hundred Tanzanian ethnic groups, drawn here by the fertile floodplain and the flow of tourists heading to Lake Manyara. The result is a village of remarkable cultural density. You explore it by bicycle or tuk-tuk, with a local guide from the community.
Late afternoon drive to your overnight near Lake Manyara.
Day 5 – Tarangire National Park
Experience a full day of Tanzania’s most rewarding parks. Tarangire is the park that surprises most visitors. Vast herds of elephants — sometimes hundreds at a single waterhole. Ancient baobabs that have been standing since before Europe’s cathedrals were built. Lions in the trees. Leopards on the rocks. A seasonal river that draws wildlife from across the region during the dry months.
Dinnet & night in Tarangire area

Day 6 – Ngorongoro Crater
Experience a full day of adventure in Ngorongoro. he descent into Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa’s great theatrical moments. . The world opens below you — 260 square kilometres of enclosed savanna, lake and forest, cradling over 25,000 animals in a space they cannot leave and have never needed to.
Dinner and accomodation ain Nogorongoro area
Day 7 – Return to Arusha & Departure
A final morning at the crater rim — the view at dawn, before the mist clears, is a different experience from the same view in afternoon light. Then the drive back to Arusha, through the highlands and past the Maasai bomas
